Final Projects

As we near the end of the first marking period, students are trying to complete their final projects.

1st hour (6th Grade) - Painting patterns on their Pysanky Egg Sculptures. Ask your child what a Pysanky egg is.
2nd hour (8th Grade) - Shading a portrait after studying facial proportions and shading techniques.  Several of the students are working in teams to replicate a portrait from a magazine
3rd/6th hours (7th Grade) - Shading half of a portrait after studying facial proportions and shading techniques.  Each student chose a picture of a person from a magazine.  After cutting the picture in two pieces, he/she glued one half to a paper.  Now they are drawing the remaining half and using shading     techniques to replicate that half.

5th hour (mixed population) - Shading half of a picture.  Students chose either a picture of an animal or a person from a magazine, cut the picture in two, and are now drawing the remaining half of the picture using shading techniques.

This coming week:

All students will be completing a post-test on Wednesday, November 2.  We will be reviewing for this on Tuesday.

The 1st hour class will be working studying shading techniques
The 2nd/3rd/5th/6th hour classes will be creating an abstract sculpture from cardboard.

Upcoming projects

Half of the marking period is already over.  I have enjoyed working with my students on a variety of projects using different media...a personal collage using magazine pictures, symmetrical and asymmetrical experiments using construction paper, a contour line maze, and a kaleidoscope using tracing paper and colored pencils.  Several of the kaleidoscopes are on display near the art room.  Students are also made a sketchbook and will be doing weekly drawings on various topics.

Upcoming projects:

1st hour:  Pysanky egg construction of plaster.  These will be painted with patterns

2nd hour:  Linoleum prints on cloth which will be made into pillows.

3rd/5th/6th hours:  monochromatic painting using temperal paints and the letters of their names.

Feel free to contact me by e-mail regarding upcoming projects.  I will try to post these more frequently.
